We joined, what next..?

I´m sincerely glad to be here with all of you today. I know this concentration carries a clear and a strong message, how important it is for every person in the world to feel safe, equal and respected despite his/her sexual orientation, nationality, sex and/or gender identity. That is one of principles of European Community.

We joined, what next..?
´´OK we have joined but now we are still controlled by the Vatican´´, quoted by ´Maciej Giertych´. This is perfectly illustrated in the rate of change of human rights in Lithuania (also in other eastern block countries). After joining the European Union many promises made to enter the EU were not fullfilled or proceed too slowly. This is due to governmental changes which have led to many human rights legislations starting to be removed or changed.

While getting ready for the speech today I took a brief look to the history of the LGBTQI+ rights movement organised throughout the XXth century. And I would like to quote one of the speeches by Harvey Milk that inspired me:

"I cannot prevent anyone from getting angry, or mad, or frustrated. I can only hope that they'll turn that anger and frustration and madness into something positive, so that two, three, four, five hundred will step forward, so the gay doctors will come out, the gay lawyers, the gay judges, gay bankers, gay architects ... I hope that every professional gay will say 'enough', come forward and tell everybody, wear a sign, let the world know."
Another thing he said:
"I have tasted freedom. I will not give up that which I have tasted. I have a lot more to drink. For that reason, the political numbers game will be played. I know the rules of their game now and how to play it." Harvey Milk
The lithuanian LGBTQI+ community still following the ideas of freedom because there are many things have to be done on the Human rights field.

And Lithuania being a part of the big European Community have to be responsible for the human rights too. Because that is one of priciples why we have such Community. And if Lithuania or other members of european Community begin forgeting their duty to defend human rights we solidly have to remind them. Because otherwise all the hard work done will be lost!
