El passat dia 22 de novembre de 2001, a iniciativa del CGB, FAGC i Lesbianes Feministes, es va convocar un acte reivindicatiu contra l’actuació del govern egipci a la seu d’Egypt Air, l’únic estament egipci a Barcelona. Es va entregar una tapa de vàter com a senyal de rebuig davant la sentència dictada contra els 23 joves gais comdemnats dels 53 detinguts en un vaixell. En l’acte es va lliurar una còpia de la carta que podeu llegir aquí mateix. Si la voleu enviar al govern egipci, com a acció de solidaritat i protesta, la trobareu en anglès tot seguit.

         Dear Sir or Madam,

         We are writing this letter in protest against recent events in your country. We have been informed through various modes of communication concerning the so called “sentenceing” of 52 young men due to their sexual preference.

         We find the way that these young men were judged and the way in which their trials were conducted a disgrace. The use of antiterrorist laws to discriminate against these young men is a pathetinc product of mental degenerates, especially coming from a country famous for its political promiscuity and prostitution. This is all smacks of political evenge and social hypocricy.

         Despite the propaganda coming from your country we fear for the prisioners in your hands. We are aware of the lack of human rights in your prisions and the routine use of torture coercion and abuse as well as your denial of these horrendous acts.

         In response we demand:

1. The immediate release of all prisioners being held for their sexual preferences.
2. Reparations be made for pain and suffering.
3. Respect for human rights not only for homosexuals but women and children as well.
4. Public recognition and legalization of homosexuality in your country.

         These demands are unnegociable. If these demands are not met we will start a comprehensive boycott of your country and work to make the world aware of your shamefull attitude.

         The diverse groups and persons signing this letter express our solidarity with all prisioners world wide who are being unjustly held and unfairly discriminated against due to their sexual preference.
